On Saturday and today (Monday) Action Aid held bake sales to raise money and awareness. We're probably going to send the money to ActionAid UK's East Africa Emergency Appeal: a food crisis due to a drought causing 10 million people in East Africa in danger. Although I didn't initiate this, I helped out with the actual bake sales by selling on the day and bringing in food to sell! It was a really successful event, with a lot of people in our grade involved in baking, selling, and organizing, and we definitely raised awareness.
I'm also involved in the Bosom Buddies project, which is a project to make arm pillows for breast cancer patients who, after surgery, often have trouble lowering their arm. Most of the main coordination has been done by another person, but so far I've been involved by making posters, sample pillows, breast cancer ribbons. We're going to have a bake sale on the first Friday of October, which I hope will be a success so we can make as many pillows as possible!
