Today I had a private horse riding lesson in preparation for this weekend's jumping competition.
We worked on mainly two faults:
1. My horse puts too much weight onto his bit, thus not being alert and isn't fully responsive.
2. I should sit back and wait more so that I take the initiative for when he takes off before a jump, which should be closer to the jump than when he judges the distances himself.
We did tight turns on two 'lignes courbes' of jumps, which required him to do the two points above, so that he can change leg properly on each jump. I think we did some good work on this, but it still needs practice.

Service #1
On Saturday and today (Monday) Action Aid held bake sales to raise money and awareness. We're probably going to send the money to ActionAid UK's East Africa Emergency Appeal: a food crisis due to a drought causing 10 million people in East Africa in danger. (https://support.actionaid.org.uk/store/checkout_donation.asp?prod_id=54&internal_homepage_top5)
Although I didn't initiate this, I helped out with the actual bake sales by selling on the day and bringing in food to sell! It was a really successful event, with a lot of people in our grade involved in baking, selling, and organizing, and we definitely raised awareness.
I'm also involved in the Bosom Buddies project, which is a project to make arm pillows for breast cancer patients who, after surgery, often have trouble lowering their arm. Most of the main coordination has been done by another person, but so far I've been involved by making posters, sample pillows, breast cancer ribbons. We're going to have a bake sale on the first Friday of October, which I hope will be a success so we can make as many pillows as possible!

Activity #1
My first mini-objective for horse riding this year is to prepare for a jumping competition on the 2nd of October. Since I have not competed last year, I will be starting off with a small division (70cm) to warm up, then a more difficult one (probably 80cm) to challenge my horse and me.

Beginning CAS
Hi, this is my blog for CAS- a requirement of the IB diploma program for which students have to be involved in Creativity, Action, and Service related activities to broaden their perspective.
Here I'll be writing thoughts and reflections on the activities I do, mainly for the purpose of keeping a record of what I've done. However this will also be for myself to have a good reference for me to work off for self-evaluation.
My projects for this term at the moment are:
Activity- Playing violin in preparation for end of year exams and recitals, and in the school orchestra at my music school, in preparation for three concerts in winter.
Action- Attending regular horse riding lessons twice a week and riding more individually, to achieve higher performance with my horse.
Service- 1.Being involved in 'Bosom Buddies'- a project initiated by my friends and me to raise awareness for breast cancer, and to fund raise and make arm pillows for breast cancer patients. 2. Being involved in the activities of 'Action Aid at Chat', a humanitarian group.
